The conference this year was exceptional. The keynote address by Trevor Owens was particularly good and helped me at least understand what is going on at a national level for digital libraries and introduced the list of awarded grants for the National Digital Platform. Reading through that list is an eyeopener for seeing the tools and initiatives people are working on.
Just some of the highlights:
Memorandum of Understanding Workshop: Creating a Process for Successful Digital Collaboration- Brett D. Currier, Rafia Mirza, Peace Ossom Williamson
We have already started using these at our institution. The materials presented were exceptional.
Envisioning a Geospatial Data Portal and Curation Network-Kathy Weimer, Douglas Burns, Joshua Been, Kim Ricker, Cecilia Smith
They brought up an interesting point that a lot of free governmental data is location based, and GIS knowledge is really needed to allow access to it.
The Training Games: A Method for Digitization Skills Refreshment and Certification- Marcia McIntosh, Shannon Willis
It's good to see a lighthearted way of training students to digitize materials.
Batch Processes for Faculty Work in an Institutional Repository- Gilbert Borrego, Chris Kehoe, David Roberts, Colleen Lyon
Got back to my desk and immediately tried this with great delight. TTU has already started a project based on this.
The informal themes of this year seem to be:
SAF DSpace batch uploading
Batch Importing into DSpace with the SAFCreator- James Creel
Automating Digital Collection Processes- Christopher Starcher, Robert Luttrell
Digital Scholarship of all kinds
Creating a Roadmap for Digital Scholarship Services at the University of Houston Libraries-Santi Thompson, Josh Been, Miranda Bennett, Lee Andrew Hilyer, Michelle Malizia
Diving into Data: Implementing a Data Repository at the Texas Digital Library- Santi Thompson, Kristi Park, Ryan Steans, Jeremy Donald, Bruce Herbert, Elizabeth Quigley, Sean Buckner, Wendi Arant Kaspar, Nick Lauland, Todd Peters, Denyse Rodgers, Cecilia Smith, Christopher Starcher, Ray Uzwyshyn, Laura Waugh
